The Light Leaks Festival
A photography festival dedicated to street photography, photojournalism
and contemporary documentary practices.
Taking place in Luxembourg, the Light Leaks Festival celebrates everyday life
and urban testimonies through the eyes of photographers, with a strong focus on storytelling.
Exchange & Encounter
Through exhibitions, conferences, workshops, photowalks and informal encounters,
the Light Leaks Festival explores how images reflect social realities, personal narratives and life in public space.
The festival brings together invited artists, emerging voices and audiences,
encouraging exchange, accessibility and dialogue around photographic practice.
Education & Community
A key dimension of the festival is its educational engagement.
The Light Leaks Festival develops projects in collaboration with schools,
creating opportunities for young audiences to explore photography and visual storytelling.
These initiatives foster curiosity, critical observation and creative expression from an early age.
Origins & Evolution
The Light Leaks Festival grew out of informal slide nights and grassroots gatherings in Luxembourg —
small meetings in bars and temporary spaces where photographers shared work, exchanged ideas and built
a community around street and documentary practice.
What began as intimate encounters gradually evolved into a multi-day festival welcoming invited artists,
international voices and a growing audience, while maintaining the independent spirit that shaped its beginnings.
Over the years, the festival has welcomed a diverse mix of internationally recognised photographers,
including Greg Girard, Diana Markosian, Markus Jokela, Éléonore Simon and Tatsuo Suzuki,
alongside figures such as Harry Gruyaert, Matt Stuart, Nikita Teryoshin and Sabine Weiss.
By bringing together established voices and emerging perspectives, the festival creates
a dialogue between generations and approaches within contemporary photography.
