Gabrielle Duplantier
Gabrielle Duplantier is a Franco-American photographer, born in 1978. She is a member of the collective project Temps Zéro. After studying Fine Arts and Art History in Bordeaux and later in Toulouse, she committed herself fully to photography and moved to Paris, where she worked as a photographer’s assistant and as a still photographer on film sets.

In 2002, she returned to live in the southwest of France, near the Basque Country. Inspired by this rich and enigmatic region, she began developing a series of images rooted in these places, where landscapes, figures, animals—familiar or otherwise—appear as impressionistic visions.

From often unpredictable shooting conditions to experiments in the darkroom, it took time for her personal photographic language to emerge. Influenced by painting, her work unfolds within an intimate, distinctly feminine universe that reveals the fantastic within the ordinary, through a dark and expressive use of black and white.

Since her early steps in photography, she has continually returned to the same familiar territories—first the Basque Country, then Portugal and India. Through strange landscapes, twilight moments, and powerful yet fragile portraits of women and children, Gabrielle Duplantier persistently affirms her subjective point of view. Less concerned with freezing reality than with questioning it, her work claims a right to look.

She has published three books with lamaindonne éditions: Volta (2014, reissued in 2021), Terres Basses (2018), and Wild Rose (2024). The book Sète, produced following her residency at the Images Singulières festival, was published in 2022 by Éditions du Bec en l’air. In 2025, she was selected as the annual resident artist of the Valparaíso International Photography Festival in Chile; this work will be exhibited in October 2026.
